My Big Fat Sigh of Relief
Finally!
Anyone who's owned a PSP has know from the beginning what the PSP could be if Sony woke up and tapped into the potential. After the much hyped release of the PSP Joke I figured it would never happen, but it appears miracles can happen. The latest PSP, coming in late 2011, is everything I and every other PSP owner could have wished for. In fact it's even more. First the NGP starts off with a nice fat processor, an ARM Cortex-A9 MP Core. Uh what's that, here's the specs (with variation since no knows how the core will be configured at this point, most likely quad):
• 800mhz - 2Ghz
• Dual or Quad Core
• 1gb of Ram (rumored)
• 4,000 - 20,000 DMIPS
• .5w - 1.9w Power Consumption
• High Performance VFPv3 FPU
• Jazelle DBX (Java execution support)
• L2 Cache 1-4mbs
• Neon SIMD 16 operations per instruction (optional)
• Kicks Ass
• Takes Names
Woot, doesn't even begin to embody the awesomeness of all that. Secondly and just as important is the GPU, the PowerVR SGX543MP+:
• Quad-Core
• 133M polygons/sec
• 4Gpixels/sec at 200mhz fill rate
• Open GL 2.0 support
• DirectX 10.1 support
• Shader Model 4.1 support
• Basically as good as your Playstation 3
Again very, very awesome. Third and last of all the PSP NGP is going to have all those bells and whistles we all tried to hack and mod into the original PSPs and some we didn't even think of. Bluetooth, 3G, OLED touch screen, rear touch pad, front camera, rear camera, GPS, built in mic, motion sensing and more. The one thing I don't care for is the rumored proprietary flash media. Ugh, Sony loves their proprietary crap, but it's really a minor issue. I'm still in shock that Sony finally go their act together and gave us what we wanted and more. I'm dumb struck by how packed this puppy is. I doubt anything close to this will happen for at least another 100 years so enjoy this one as much as you can. Good job Sony and Thank You.
