Review: Variable Wattage Soldering Iron

Big Fat Tech Review

Good Enough.

I've used this soldering iron a few times, when i wasn't working at my desk and needed something more portable than my Aoyue 937+ soldering station. It does the job well enough and the adjustable wattage works fine. The problem is that you have no idea what temperature you're really getting so it's probably a good idea to be very careful if using it on anything delicate. The wattage goes from 0-50, supposedly in 5 Watt increments, but I'm guessing here because the packaging doesn't say. It also seems others have gotten this product DOA or it's died after a couple of uses. For the price those types of issues shouldn't be happening. Overall I'm satisfied with this soldering iron, it serves a purpose in it's portability and it's better than a cheapy from RadioShack, but if you want something a lot better and just a little more in price get yourself an Aoyue 937+. It's worth the extra money if you are doing a lot of soldering in general, but especially if you're doing all your soldering in one place.
