Movie Review: Blood The Last Vampire (2009)

My Big Fat Movie Review

Now it's Anime. Now it's not!

I started watching this movie on a whim, because I thought it was an anime film. Instead it's the film adaptation of the the original 2000 anime with the same title. I'll be the first to admit Japanese films tend to be strange and typically difficult to understand even for fans of Japanese movies. Blood on the other hand is fairly easy to follow probably because it's based on anime. Albeit the story tends to be all over the place and is mostly there just as an excuse for excessive violence and action, action, action. In that respect Blood delivers. If you're an anime fan the movie will delight you, even if you're not you might enjoy it. Not necessarily because it's a great film, but it's the first film I've seen that does a good job of emulating the ultra violence of anime. Baddies get slashed completely in half, blood sprays, arm and legs fly off at the "woosh" of swords and Japanese school girls kick kung-fu ass. In short everything you'd see in an anime and done well, solid special effects. All said worth watching once if your interest is piqued. By the by the original 2000 anime is definitely worth watching for anime fans.
