My Big Fat Review
Zorkesque and Loving It!
In my pursuit of Zork like games after the horrible disappointment of LOZ I stumbled across Legends of the Green Dragon. Although not as strange as, or funny, as Kingdom of Loathing it's still quite good. Actually probably a little closer to Zork because it's not as strange as KOL. Some of the things that make LotGD great are as you progress in levels you gain turns. Its nice to be rewarded for you efforts. The other cool component is the Ye Olde Bank. When you're done adventuring for the day through your hard earned Zorkmids, er I mean gold, into the bank to gather interest while you are waiting for the next day. The other fantastic feature is that LotGD's day is only half real world time. Which means two days of game play per real day. I just got off the Isle of Wen (basically the training ground for noobs) so I'm not that far into the game. Once off the Isle you can die unlike on the Isle. What is cool is that when you become a spirit you have to torment the souls of your victims to gain enough favor with Ramius so he will resurrect you. So even in death you get to play. If you fail at this you just have to wait till the next day to play. It's an all text based interface unlike KOL, so not as pretty as KOL's stick figures, but this adds to the Zork feel. One of the main things with this game is you are in control of your adventuring. You get to explore when you want, even if you are not ready. You can attempt to fight enemies above your skill level. As far as questing goes I'm not sure. I haven't played the game for more than a couple of days. There are plenty of random encounters so far, which always adds some flavor to a game. All in all a great game and worth your time. Updates to follow.
