My Big Fat Pet Peeve
Mmm Tastes Like Poison
Right off the bat I'll come out and say that I was very skeptical when I heard about the poisonous effects of fluoride. I'm not big on conspiracy theories and I'm definitely a skeptic when it comes to stuff like this, but after some research into the subject I have to say I'm more than convinced that fluoridated tap water serves no hygienic dental benefit and for a percentage of the public is a health hazard. There are some great resources out there to back me up on this and a lot of common knowledge about what fluoride is and what it's used for. A good place to start is the book The Fluoride Deception by Christopher Bryson. If you're lazy there's also a BBC documentary of the same name interviewing Bryson on how and why he came to write the book and some of the major points he makes therein. Some the inarguable facts about Fluoride are disturbing. First it is a poison, plain and simple, and has been commonly used in rat poison and insecticides. Secondly the EPA considers fluoride to be Hazardous Waste. Just recently the EPA announced that it intends to lower the maximum amount of fluoride in drinking water because of evidence of the chemical’s deleterious effects to children’s health. Thirdly a fluoride was used as a thyroid suppressor up until the 1970's for those with hyperthyroidism. Meaning when given to people with normal thyroid activity it can cause hypothyroidism. A few other points I'll just lump together here. Fluoride is a Neurotoxin that causes reduced IQ in children. It also causes Hormonal Distribution in the pineal gland, the adrenals, the pancreas, and the pituitary leading obviously to a host of health issues. 98% of European countries have banned water fluoridation do to the hazard fluoride poses. Finally fluoride has been linked to various types of cancer. The conclusion after all these facts is: I'd rather not be drinking it! Fluoride is good at a certain level for teeth, but it turns out there's plenty in your toothpaste. The idea that drinking fluoridated water helps your teeth seems inane at best. It's an ineffective way to deliver a proper dosage to your teeth. In fact over fluoridation causes fluorosis in teeth which is a developmental disturbance of the dental enamel. In short fluoridating water is a waste of money and health hazard. A typical city spends roughly a million a year adding fluoride to the water. Of course the nutters amongst us have many conspiracies and crazy plots as to why fluoride is put into the water, but as far as I'm concerned it comes down to greed and money especially once you understand who's selling the fluoride and where it's coming from. Sadly the only was to get the fluoride out is either by distilling your water or using a reverse osmosis system. Regular water filters just don't do the trick. Myself I've started buying distilled water, which is the purest. Bottoms up.
