TV Review: Metalocalypse

Big Fat TV Review

Death Metal At It's Funniest

Metalocalypse follows the lives and music of the members of Dethklock.  A band so successful and zealously followed by their fans that it has become the 7th largest economy in the world.  Metalocalypse is definitely not for the weak stomached or the easily offended with it's macabre and often gory humor it pushes the limits of black comedy.  Fans of Frisky Dingo and the like will have no trouble becoming radical followers of the show.  Dethklok's concerts are always on a massive scale and end up being world changing events by either wrecking economies or causing full scale wars to break out.  The concerts also have a tendency to go awry killing a good portion of their rabid fans. The members of the band have about the same amount of death, dysfunction and insanity going on in their alcohol and drug fueled personal lives.  Fortunately for the band they have Charles, their lawyer and CFO who not only protects them from themselves, but darker forces that are at work. My favorite character though has to be Dr. Rockzo, the cocaine fueled rock-n-roll clown, a parody of several real rock stars, but mostly David Lee Roth.  The show does a great job poking fun at heavy metal, the fans and real rock stars (the members of DethKlock are none too bright). The biggest and only problem with Metalocalypse has been it's strange schedule with episodes bizarrely scattered throughout the year which is just annoying.  Overall if you can stomach the gore it's a very funny cartoon.
