Big Fat Film Review
La Zombies
It's always a happy day when I stumble upon a good zombie movie in Netflix. La Horde was one of those unexpected surprises. The plot follows a group of vice cops out for revenge after one of their own is killed by a group of gangsters. After a showdown in a high rise slum goes wrong things start to go from bad to worse when the dead start coming back to life. In order to survive the cops and gangsters have to rely on each other putting their hatred and plans for revenge aside. Deciding to escape the building the group has to face a labyrinth of dark hallways and apartments infested with the living dead. The settings, along with the underlying tensions between the characters, ratchets up the tensions nicely. At times the film really reminded me of playing Left 4 Dead with the feeling of anxiety you get as you fight through hordes of zombies in dark and claustrophobic quarters. The film also makes good on a lot of those "Oh Yeah" moments when a horde of zombies is mowed down by a machine gun or taken out by a grenade. I did find some of the arguing between the gangsters and cops tiring at times, but nothing that ruined the film. I also felt the ending could have been done better, but I feel that way about a lot of zombie movies. All in all it's a well done zombie flick with solid acting and definitely worth watching.
