Big Fat Film Review
Good but...
...not great. I really enjoyed the first half of Alice in Wonderland. The beginning of the movie was creative and moved at a good pace holding my interest. The film follows Alice's return to Wonderland and the revelation of her ultimate destiny there. The characters were well done and the settings were very imaginative, classic Tim Burton. I especially enjoyed Johnny Depp as the Mad Hater and Helena Carter as the Red Queen. Their acting, as usual, was fantastic and their characters were particularly entertaining. The problem starts in the later half when the film simply begins to lag. Basically you know what's going to happen at the end and you have to wait 45 minutes for it without much plot in that time frame. Surprising for a Burton film, maybe the reliance on it being a "3D" film to carry it was the problem. One of the many reasons I can't stand 3D movies is because they can corrupt even the best director and ruin even the most time tested of stories. In short 3D causes laziness. The films worth a watch for the performances mentioned and the settings, but in the end I just wanted it to be over.
