Big Fat Film Review
A Tough Zell?
I'm not sure why this film only got a 5.4 on IMDB. Possibly it's too quaint or the idea for the film is not all that fresh. Zellweger plays an up and coming, uptight, corporate type who is sent from Miami to the middle of nowhere Minnesota to handle the downsizing of the towns factory. Zellweger's distaste for the bitter cold and small town life leads to some pretty comical scenarios when combined with the oddities and idiosyncrasies of the towns people. Zellweger ultimately comes to be friends the towns people and even fall in love with the head of the union, played by Harry Connick Jr. It's a simple story, but I found it to be quite funny even if it's not all together an original idea. The acting is good and I found myself laughing out loud several times at the conflicts that a rose. My conclusion: New in Town is good light-hearted fare for a romantic comedy and is closer to a 6.5 out of 10. You're wife or girlfriend may enjoy it more, but it's enjoyable for the guys too.
