Movie Review: City Island (2009)

Big Fat Film Review

Today's Word is Dysfunctional

A son with a fat fetish. A daughter pretending to be in college while really stripping. A husband with a son his family doesn't know about. A disenchanted wife who thinks her husband is cheating. Sounds like the perfect family for a hilarious movie. The Rizzos are your typical New York family loud, obnoxious and argumentative. A domino effect of events occurs when Vince Rizzo (Andy Garcia) decides to bring home his now adult son from prison, but neglects to tell anyone, including the son, that he's his father. As events unfold there's more than meets the eye with each character as the story evolves and as their secrets will either push them to reveal who they really are or destroy their family. This is a very good comedy, quirky, witty and quick, with solid footing in the human element to back it all up. At times the stereotypical New York family thing can get loud and annoying, but it doesn't ruin the movie and in the end under all the noise we find a family that really cares for each other, albeit strangely.
