Big Fat Film Review
Double Ugh!
My one resounding thought after seeing this movie was, "Dear god! Why did Val Kilmer do this film?" Double Identity is pure unadulterated drivel. I guess he's desperate to pay off those back taxes. This movie is nothing more than every spy film gimmick spliced together and rehashed, cheesy played out chase scenes and an epic rip off North by Northwest (1959), but all done rather badly. It's really, really boring. This movie is not a fresh take on old ideas, it's simply a suck fest and it's sad that Val Kilmer got sucked down with it. It's heart breaking to see Kilmer's talents go to waste trying to make something out of a character that is so one dimensional. The viewer never gets to know or care about the characters in the film, because the writing is so bad and the plot is so scattered that it barely exists. Do yourself a favor and see a decent spy film like Mirage (1965) instead or The Saint (1997).
