Film Review: The Girl Who Played with Fire / Flickan Som Lekte Med Elden (2009)

Fat Film Review

No Kidding...

..there's actually some IKEA furniture building going on in this film. Seriously though this is the fantastic sequel to the even more fantastic Swedish film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. So watch that first if you haven't already. Now on to the review. Sequels can so often miss the mark, but happily this is not one of those times. The Girl Who Played With Fire is a fantastic film and almost as good as the first. The main characters are still Mikael and Lisbeth, but they have since parted ways since the last film. A controversial story on human trafficking, by another reporter, that Mikael's magazine is planning on publishing will be the spark that ignites a series of murders that eventually cause Lisbeth and Mikael to seek out each others help. Their hunt for what secret buried in the report has fueled these killings well lead them to a more surprising ending than I can say here without ruining the film. It's all together exciting and quite surprising. You'll enjoy this movie as much as the first. I felt it was a little less suspenseful than the prior film (maybe it was the IKEA scene), but otherwise it's as well crafted as the first movie and the acting is still superb. As soon as I get around to it I'll be doing a review on the third and final film in the series The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest. Enjoy.
