Movie Review: The Other Guys (2010)

Big Fat Movie Review

Like A Comedy Smoothie...

...blending all the flavors of humor into one tasty laugh. That's the only way to describe The Other Guys. The film takes bits of subtle humor, goofiness, sublime comedy, some bawdy jokes, parody and more mixing them into one movie. It makes sense when you consider the two main characters Will Farrell and Mark Wahlberg. This mish-mash of humor usually doesn't work in a movie, but Farrell and Wahlberg balance each other quite well. All in all the movie manages to pull off what most other films like this fail at, consistency. The story is simply that Farrell and Wahlberg want to be the next super hero cops in the city, instead of just "the other guys." Both have severe personality shortcomings and aren't very good cops either. The film does lag about half way through, but then picks up again pretty quickly. Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson are superb in the beginning of the film parodying the typical ubercop you see in movies.
