Film Review: Solomon Kane (2009)

My Big Fat Film Review

Van Helsing the Prequel?

Now that I've insulted two groups of fan boys the regular humans can keep reading. First off this is great movie and no it's not a Van Helsing prequel. Although at times it feels like one, albeit much better and not cheesy. The main character Solomon Kane although dressed exactly like Van Helsing is much darker and disturbed. He makes for a much more complex character. The beginning of the film is very Rambo III, with the main character once a man of violence now trying to find peace in a monastery. He finds himself ousted from the monastery and on the road with pilgrims trying to evade the encroaching evil that is taking over the country. Marauding groups of men possessed by evil tempt him to fall back into his violent ways and push him further to an ultimate confrontation between himself and the source of evil. That's all I'm going to say, because I don't want to ruin the film. In short this a great movie, a better Van Helsing if you would, and very engrossing. The DVD and Bluray are currently not available for American region players, so make sure you can play it before buying.
