My Big Fat Movie Review
So Bad It's Gooood!
First off I really liked this film. Secondly if you are not a fan of low budget biker movies from the 60's and 70's or at least B movies of any era than this film is not for you. Hell Ride has been bashed by some as trying to cash in on the grindhouse/exploitation revival, but the naysayers are really those looking for something like Planet Terror they're not looking for a grindhouse film. What I mean by that is Planet Terror (great movie that it is) is really not a grindhouse movie, but a parody of grindhouse films. Most biker movies of the 60's and 70's went nowhere and didn't have much of a plot. They were just sex, booze, and bikes and that is exactly what Hell Ride offers up along with the usual biker cliches, bad one liners and violence. In my opinion Hell Ride is an exploitation film and not simply trying to be one. I'm not sure if that's what Larry Bishop wanted, but that's what he got and that's very cool. All the people who found this movie boring, pointless and empty are doing all the true fans of exploitation films a favor....stay away from our movies. Just because you watched Planet Terror and found it amusing doesn't make you a fan of the genre. If you are a fan, you will enjoy Hell Ride.
