Film Review: The Town (2010)

Big Fat Film Review

Ugh...

...it's actually good. I know, I know, you're saying, "But Ben Afflecks in it?!". You're right Ben Affleck sucks, but that doesn't give him the power to ruin everything all the time. Although I've had my fill of bank robber and street thug movies over the years The Town actually manages to stand out from the lot. The story keeps an even and subtle level of intensity through out. The action scenes aren't all that original, but they are well choreographed and superbly done. The heart of the story is about Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) a regular resident of Charlestown neighborhood in Boston. Meaning he's a petty thug, bank robber and all around bad guy just like his friends and his incarcerated father. Wanting something more out of his life Doug strains to escape his friends, his history and a mob boss. Things get complicated when he falls in love with a bank manger of one of the banks his gang has robbed. The acting is very good, even Ben's somehow, and it's a well crafted script. Definitely worth watching once, maybe even twice. Enjoy.
